French East India Company Courtiers in Bengal: an overview

During the seventeenth and the eighteenth centuries, the Asian market was primarily a sellers‟ market. According to K.N. Chaudhuri: „the commercial methods of European trading companies followed a complicated pattern. The complexity grew from the diversity of trade goods as well as different structural features of the economy and society in different Asian countries with which Europeans traded.‟
