SAP-DRS, Phase II (2009-14) –


The Department of History, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, received the University Grants Commission’s prestigious Special Assistance Programme (SAP) grant (Phase I) in 2005 for Research on Environmental History. It is the one of primary Institutions working in this area within India. The first term of five years (2005-2009) was successfully completed in 2009 with a number of research projects, International and national level seminars having been organized by the Department on various aspects of environmental history. The Special Assistance Programme of the Department was renewed in 2009 for Phase II with the addition of a new thrust area including History of Science and Technology as a subtheme. Under this programme, the Department has also invited scholars of repute from different universities from all across World apart who have participated in seminars, public lectures, class lectures for students and research scholars throughout these two phases.

We are successfully running the UGC – DRS programme for the last ten years.
Faculty output under DRS programme: Total submitted research projects: 28
Departmental Publications under SAP/DRS: 6
Number of Senior Visiting Fellows under SAP-DRS: 18 (total up to March 2014) from Indian Universities and Institutions, and from Universities in UK, USA, Germany and Australia.
Recently the Departmental Programme has been upgraded to DSA- Phase I. This is in effect from 01.04.2015.
