I graduated from Presidency College in 1991 and then joined Jawaharlal Nehru University. After completing MA (1993), MPhil (1995) and PhD in 2000, I became Junior Fellow at the Centre for Contemporary Studies at Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (Teen Murti, New Delhi) and was the recipient of Charles Wallace Junior Fellowship. In 2005, I joined Presidency College as Lecturer and then served as Reader in Visva Bharati University (Santiniketan) in 2009 for three months. In November 2009, I joined the Department of History, Jadavpur University as Reader and became Associate Professor in November 2012. For the last seven years, I am associated with Peace Research Institute Oslo, Norway as Senior Researcher. In the fall semester of 2012, I was the ICCR Visiting Professor at Aarhus University, Denmark. I am one of the editors of Oxford (New York) Bibliographies Online Military History Project. I function as a referee for various publishing houses like Routledge, Ashgate, Manohar and Oxford University Press. I am also the recipient of NORAD Fellowship, several INSA (New Delhi) fellowships on the History of Science and UGC DRS projects.
My areas of interest are British-Indian military history, counter-insurgency in South Asia and Warfare and State in Early Modern Eurasia
I teach Modern European History (1787-1849; 1880-1945), Modern Indian History (1757-1947), International Relations (1945-2000) and Science and Technology in Early Modern West (Special Paper).
