I joined Jadavpur University in the spring of 2005. I had studied History at Jadavpur University during 1992-97, received Felix Scholarship to pursue doctoral research at SOAS, University of London in 1999 and successfully defended my thesis in early 2005. Since 2005, I have taught courses on Modern Europe, Western Political Thought, Twentieth Century USA, Twentieth Century World, Colonial Bengal and the British Empire at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I have undertaken research on communist history, Muslim workers in the city, intellectuals and activists on the left from a Muslim background, Indians abroad, urban social history, colonial policing/intelligence and received grants and fellowships for gathering archival material from Charles Wallace Trust, Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme and Amiel and Melburn Trust. I have also assisted my colleagues to organise local, national and international seminars, conferences and lectures for the Department of History, Centre for European Studies and Centre for Marxian Studies.
